This week our teacher covered elements of mise en scene . Mise en scene is the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in a play. It can be considered as one of the four basic elements in art, along with color, line and texture. Mise en scene helps build the mood and atmosphere for the audience .The director's choice of mise en scene has a significant effect on how the audience perceives characters and their environments. It is the key to a film's style and overall tone .For the audience its intensity , it’s mode of feeling, and to invite the viewer to feel deeply too. There are five elements of mise en scene: composition , sets , props, actors , costumes , and lightning .The technique has been used by directors since 1913. Mise en scene has also been use in film criticism since the 1970s when Roland Barthes wrote an essay about the meaning of a particular shot from Jean Renoir's 1938 film.
