 Roland Barthes’Theory of Semiotics  The Hunger Gamed is a dystopian movie where children are set up against each other in a battle royals to death.All children aged between 12 and 18 that is being taken from a district .Katniss Everdeen is from District 12 (protagonist ) . All the districts suffer from poverty and oppression made worse by the fact that every year , two “tributes” from each district must fight to the death in the Hunger Games .The clip we analyzed was the catching fire where the mockingbird appears. The signs that we choose were fire , mocking bird and white dress . Fire usually means cleansing and purification . Mocking bird represents originality, and authenticity . White dress usually represents moral purity , joy and happiness .

        The object key concept of this lesson is the ability to recognize and define signs (visually and audibly) when analyzing media products for denotative and connotative meanings. Denotation is the primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests. A great example is It was too hard. (The object was too firm). Connotation is an idea that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning. For example, blue is a color, but it also is a word used to describe a feeling of sadness, as in. She's feeling blue. Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation. Roland Barthes was a French literary theorist, essayist, philosopher, critic, and semiotician. Barthes believed signs had both signifiers, being the physical form of the sign as we perceive it through our senses and the signified or meaning that is interpreted.         In class our teacher assigned us a table, we were given images and we were assigned to

       .            Welcome to my blog journey for media studies. Media Studies is the study of the content of mass media, industries and practices analysis. The importance of studying media helps shape our perspectives of the world around us through media. My favorite products are videos. It gives me a visual representation of a personal feel to a message. The more I consume videos the better my visual and creativity gets. Videos are engaging to people in my group because visuals capture their interests in split seconds. Learning in-depth about media, learning why the study of media is important, and embracing creativity through media are three things I find interesting about media studies.
